Prayer of Offering

Posted on Oct 30th, 2008 by Phoenix : Reborn and Complete Phoenix

Samhain/Halloween is a time to remember those who have passed over before us. The following prayer will be said in my home tomorrow, in honor of my ancestors.

"From the dawn of your birth
To the sunset of your death
I honor you.
From the missions you completed
To your duties left undone
I honor you
From the seasons of your being
Through the cycle of your life
I honor you
From your time beyond the veil
'Til your earth entrance back again
May the angels support you
May Spirit surround you
May my healing love reach you
From this moment until the end of time.
So mote it be."

Thanks for posting, Phoenix. We are having a Samhain celebration at our house on Saturday for members of the spiritual community, and I think you have reminded me of an excellent verse to use during the proceedings.

Thanks for your inspiration! And, if I don't talk to you before hand, may your Samhain be truly blessed.

Blessed Be,
Mercale

Thanks for this post Claudia. I have learned a lot from you.

Hindus have TWO such rituals. First is performed on the “lunar date and month” on which the ancestor/parent had passed away.

However, there is also an annual ritual which is called “pitru purush tarpan” and is performed for ALL ancestors. The Hindu Itihasas (histories) say, that on the “Mahalaya Amavasya (new moon)”, there is a conjunction of the sun and the moon and that the sun enters the sign Virgo. On this day, the departed ancestors, leave their abode in the world of Yama (Yama is the lord of death) and come down to the world of mortals and occupy the houses of their descendants. The fortnight preceding the new moon is specially consecrated for the propitiation of such departed spirits.

My dear ones, I thank you both!

Eli, as always you enlighten me!
Mercale, I will be celebrating Samhain at home with my family. Most Pagans and Witches I know live further away, and the rest of my family is Christian. My daughter and I do celebrate in our own way - hey I might even shock my mother-in-law and bring out some divination tools while she is there!

Hugs!
