Witch's Pyramid

Posted on Sep 16th, 2008 by Phoenix : Reborn and Complete Phoenix
Sometimes known as the Four Powers of the Magus, or the Four Secrets of the Sphinx, whose energy is considered to be the foundation and four pillars of all practical and esoteric magick. Whether one is conjuring the weather for a great day at the beach, or concentrating on empowering the Witch within, the basic building blocks are always the same:
To Know, To Dare, To Will, and To Be Silent, also known by their latin names Noscere (to know), representing the element of air; Audere (to dare), designated by the element of water; Velle (to will) stands for the element of fire; and Tacere (to be silent) linked to the element of earth.
Together they become voces musticae .
When the four powers are gathered together, then the fifth sacred power occurs - that is the quintessence, or Spirit, which represents the top of the pyramid, sometimes called ire, meaning "to go" - the movement of energy toward manifestation guided by the hand of the witch. Without this solid foundation, the cone of power will stutter and fall and the enchantment will break apart before it can reach the desire.
To know means that one will strive to learn as much as one can in this lifetime and that one will apply this knowledge to their daily lives. It also means that one will seek truth in all things and be willing to change ones perception to meet ones awakening spirituality.
To Dare says that one has pushed fear behind her/him and that one will be courageous  and proactive in all that one does. The witch will believe in herself and have faith in the Universe and in her own abilities.
To Will means that one will learn to focus thoughts and practice meditation and visualization in order to reach goals. It means not to sit back and let the world pass you by - the individual will work toward his dreams. Meeting obstacles means finding positive solutions to overcome them.
To Be Silent is perhaps the most important. It means to keep the mouth shut about the magick one does, in order to avoid friends and others to destroy magick with negativity, before it had a chance to manifest. It means that one follows the etiquette of the Craft and not talk about what happens in ritual circle, within your coven, or what information is given in trust by another. This also includes to refrain from gossip, nor talk about anyone in a way that potentially can harm that person.
To Go means to actively master the four pillars and use them in a positive way to help oneself and others. To Go is the ultimate meaning of the Witch's Oath of Service.
As we trace the pentacle with our fingers beginning at the top at To Know, moving up and to the right to To Dare, toward the left corner at To Will, and down to the right to To Be Silent, and then move back to the top corner, you have drawn not only a pentacle, but worked through the four corners before moving to Spirit. Coming back down again to the left hand corner To Know, we have the occult maxim As Above, so below. Not only does one being by studying and believing, one must end that way as well - faith followed by magick followed by faith.

This is so interesting.  I kept thinking of it in relation to the Native American directions and some of the energies expressed by those.  There are so many paths to Spirit, so much wisdom.  thank you for sharing this!

Centria, there is so much what we have in commen with any Earth-based spirituality, that I can absolutly understand how you made these connections. The awarness of Spirit Guides for example is within Native American culture deeply expressed, and also honored in Witchcraft. Again - all paths lead to the same, and all paths are true.

dedavie - welcome to my blog. I am so glad, that you found value within this entry. Hopefully you will continue to share this journey with me, so we can talk more.

Blessed be!

All paths lead to the same, and all paths are true, much wisdom here,  and perhaps any earth based spirituality is in nature inherently magical. Thank you for trusting and so fully sharing your path to enrich ours.  Hugs

Here is my footprint.

One stupid question though …

Does Noscere include action too (apparently from your words it seems so) or “to Go” is the action part ?

I ask this because in Hindu concepts, Knowledge and Action are treated separately, yet are “bound together” by a thread. (Karma, Akarma, and Vikarma)… knowledge is the discriminative power which lets a person choose the “right action” .

Yes, all paths lead to the same, I won't clutter the blog with quotes, but let me simply say, I find these SAME fundamentals in Hindu thoughts too. Very interesting…

Eagerly waiting for your next blog…

Warm love

wow really amazing…and here i was thinking no one else understood the principles found in magic, alchemy, the goddess and other esosteric staples….are u a Wiccan?
i was impressed by the pentagram and the integration of elementary powers; this occurs a lot in alchemy too….it's a all on the way to creating a Masterwork like the Philosopher's Stone (power for all transmutations) or the Emerald Tablet (immortality); beyond this alchemy stresses the union of opposites and the Masterwork can also be an Enlightened Soul….would be interested to hear more from you ^_^
